Meet Our Founder
Christy Lemaster
My career is rooted in small business. At 15, my first job in a gourmet fast-food restaurant taught me how to work in a fast-paced environment, provide excellent customer service, and maintain quality under pressure.
My curiosity about technology began even earlier. My neighbor worked with phone systems and cabling. We loved turning scraps of colorful cable into bracelets – our own fashion statement in the ’80s. He later became my first boss in telecommunications and a mentor.
As a kid, I taught myself BASIC programming on a Commodore 64. When dial-up internet arrived, I spent hours configuring modems until everything worked. Hearing that connection to AOL felt like the whole world opening up.
After high school, I joined my neighbor’s telecommunications company while attending college. I truly learned the business from the ground up – answering phones, handling shipping and receiving, and typing invoices on a typewriter.
As a young woman entering a male-dominated industry, I had to advocate for the opportunity to do technical work. It took a couple of years to convince my boss, but eventually I received technical training and began working in the field. I installed cabling, built computers, and configured business phone systems. I went on to train in A+, Microsoft systems engineering, Bogen paging, and Avaya phone systems, from small-business platforms to enterprise systems.
In 2003, I trained at Avaya headquarters on its IP Office platform and soon completed what I learned was the first Avaya IP Office installation in Orange County. I later helped build an IT startup into a one-stop shop for voice and technology solutions. I loved the technical challenges, but I especially valued understanding my clients’ businesses, solving their challenges, and becoming their trusted technology advisor.
After surviving stage 2 ovarian cancer, I stepped away, traveled, and reconsidered what I wanted from life and work. I founded indietech in 2012 with renewed purpose. In 2014, I earned my California C-7 Low Voltage Systems Contractor license.
Today, I bring three decades of experience to every client relationship. I am also a Kundalini yoga teacher, sound healer, drummer, and board member of Vozes da Floresta, a nonprofit supporting Indigenous communities who protect the Amazon rainforest.
At indietech, we do our thing so you can do yours.
